As any significant honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.
Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
- Another creative title missed out that year
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
