The Australian skipper has claimed 309 Test scalps in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.
Australia's chief selector George Bailey has declared that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in the forthcoming historic rivalry.
Speculation had been growing that the 32-year-old might be unavailable due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.
Previous updates from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in the WACA.
He revealed that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the prospects of being involved.
"We're aware that the clock is ticking and there are permutations at play, aside from the physical problem, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.
"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he will feature a significant role. Hopefully starting in Perth. If not, we'll reassess."
Previous Setbacks
The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.
There is a track record of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from three Australian summers in a short span.
He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.
The selector indicated that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the initial match.
Alternative Arrangements
If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the national team for their ODI contests against India as a precautionary measure because of soreness in his side.
The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Considerable effort has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the opening match as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.
"He was only going to play the initial matches regardless. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
